Enter/Edit Your Own Phone Numbers in Your ICQ Details
By keeping your phone, fax, wireless pager and cellular phone numbers up to date and by using the "Follow Me" service, it's never been so easy for your ICQ contacts to reach you by phone.
To update your phone numbers:
  1. Click > View/Change My Details > Phone Book




  2. Just Click to add number or click the Add/Edit/Delete buttons according to your needs.
  3. Should you want to publish any of your phone numbers in the ICQ Directories and make them freely available - check the Publish To All box alongside the number.
  4. Click Apply to save changes or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Note:
Only the first five phone numbers checked in the Publish To All column can be stored on ICQ Directories.

AlwaysUpdated: Distribute Your Own Phone Numbers
By default, phone numbers entered in your Online Phone Book are visible only to users on your Contact List. Additionally, users on your Contact List will automatically receive any updates you make, so you won't need to notify each one seperatly.
However ICQ provides you with the option of increasing or decreasing your phone number privacy and of controlling who receives any updates you make.

  1. Click > Security & Privacy Permissions > Contact Info / Files.




  2. Select from the Phone Numbers radio buttons whether you want "No one", "Only users on my Contact List" or "Everyone" to be able to access/receive updates of your phone numbers.
  3. To override the Auto Accept default (that enables users to automatically receive your updates) and have the control to individually approve which users obtain updates, uncheck the Auto Accept box.
  4. Click Apply to save changes or Cancel to exit without saving changes
Note:
Providing personal information on the ICQ Service is voluntary. The more information you provide about yourself, the easier it will be for your friends to locate and communicate with you. Unless explicitly state otherwise, information you provide is visible to ICQ and Internet users and may be obtained and stored by them.

Configure the "Follow Me" Feature
The "Follow Me" Service makes it even easier ever for you to be reached by phone. It works by enabling you to select which of your phone numbers is currently the best to reach you on.
To use this service:

  1. Click > Phone "Follow Me" > I'm Currently at:

  2. To change your "Follow Me" settings, click Set Current Location in teh same dialog:





You can also access your phone and "Follow Me" setting when you change any of your ICQ details:
  1. Click > View/Change My Details > Phone Book




  2. Select your current number from the Phone "Follow Me" Service drop down box.
  3. Click Save to save changes or Close to exit without saving changes.
Set Your Phone Availability Status
To make sure that you aren't inconvenienced when you're busy, ICQ gives you the option of defining your availability status.
To activate:
  1. Click > under Communication "Phone Follow Me" > Phone Status




  2. While the default setting is Don't Show you may select Available or Busy.
  3. An icon ( for Available, for Busy) will now appear alongside System Notice in your ICQ and beside your name on other users' Contact Lists. If you selected Don't Show, your phone status will not be indicated.
Manage a Personal ICQ Phone Book
Just as keeping your own information organized helps other users find you easily, keeping your contacts' user information up to date makes it easy for you to find them.

  1. Click on a user's name on you ICQ Contact List.
    Under User Options, click Phone Book > Find Phone Number.




  2. Update phone numbers by selecting Click to add number or use the Add/Edit/Delete buttons according to your needs.
  3. To retrieve any user details that are stored in the ICQ Directories click the Update from ICQ Directory button.
  4. Click the More Options button to save additional user details such as a Vcard or search the ICQ Whitepages.
  5. Click Apply to save changes or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
Send/Receive Online Phone Call Requests
By sending an Online Phone Call Request you can ask a user in advance if you may call them or request that they call you. To send a request:

  1. Select a Contact Name under User Options > Phone Book > Send Phone Call Request.




  2. Specify the recipient of your request by entering their ICQ#
  3. Select from the May I Call You? or the Please Call Me radio buttons.
  4. Enter a subject for your Phone Call Request (optional).
  5. If you have selected Please Call Me you may tell the user to call you on any number entered in your user details (check the Each of my available phone numbers radio button) or select The following number onlyradio button and specify the phone number on which you should be contacted.
  6. Click Send to submit your Phone Request or Cancel to exit without saving changes.
When you receive an Online Phone Call Request from another ICQ user a flashing telephone icon will appear beside the contact's name. To receive the request:

  1. Click the flashing telephone icon beside the user name and select Receive, the following dialog will appear.




  2. In the Response panel of the dialog box, select from the options I will call you or Please call me (use the drop down box to determine the timing).
  3. From the Response Action section choose your response to the incoming phone request. Select from Reply, Accept or Decline.
  4. The user's response appears in the center of the Send Online Phone Request dialog under User Response.
